The record
The Dobbin House was built in 1776 by Reverend Alexander Dobbin, an Irish-born minister and educator, making it one of the oldest standing buildings in Gettysburg; Dobbin also founded one of the first schools west of the Susquehanna here. During and after the Battle of Gettysburg the house served as a temporary field hospital. There are long-standing stories that it was a stop on the Underground Railroad, though this has not been historically substantiated. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973 and operates today as a candlelit tavern and restaurant. Reported activity includes apparitions in period dress and the sense of being watched among the colonial-era rooms.
