Privacy Policy

How we handle your information. Questions about your data go to privacy@hauntstay.com.

Operators on HauntStay share links and print QR codes that open a HauntStay address beginning /r/. Those links take you to the event, venue or operator page they point to.

Promotion tracking is currently paused. Opening a promotion link now does not set a tracking cookie and does not record your visit, and new bookings, waitlist sign-ups and follows are not credited to a promotion.

Before the pause, opening a promotion link could set a cookie named hs_pv, containing only a random value. It was set once, HTTP-only, sent only to HauntStay over secure connections, marked SameSite=Lax, and set to expire 30 days later. If your browser still has one, it stays there until that expiry, and HauntStay does not use it to credit anything. You can delete it at any time in your browser settings; doing so does not affect your bookings or your account.

Records made before the pause are kept as part of the operator’s promotion history. For a recorded visit that is a one-way, keyed digest of the cookie’s value (not the value itself), which link was opened, when it was opened (the date and time), and whether the browser looked like a person or could not be classified — not your IP address, your full user-agent string or the page you came from. A booking started within 30 days of opening a link may also record that link and when it was opened. Where a booking, waitlist sign-up or follow was credited to a promotion, the record notes which link and visit earned it and, if you were signed in, whether your account was the promoting operator’s own. Promotion reports show operators counts, not which visitor did what. There is currently no automatic deletion of these records.

As with any website, your requests pass through our hosting provider, which keeps its own operational logs.

Promotion tracking is currently paused. If we introduce consent-based promotion measurement in the future, we will update this notice to explain how it works and how visitors can control it.
