The record
Construction began in 1858 and the asylum opened in 1864, operating until 1994. Designed for about 250 patients, it became severely overcrowded, holding over 2,400 at its 1950s peak. After closing, it was purchased at auction by contractor Joe Jordan, who has stabilized and restored the building while providing historic and paranormal tours.
