The record

Opened in 1910 to treat tuberculosis during a severe regional outbreak, the original wooden hospital was replaced in 1926 by a five-story brick building designed to hold more than 400 patients. It closed as a sanatorium in 1962 after antibiotics reduced the need, briefly reopened as a nursing home, and closed again in 1980. Charlie and Tina Mattingly purchased the property in 2001 and have worked to preserve it while opening it for tours and investigations.
