The record
The Historic Hotel Bethlehem stands at 437 Main Street on one of the most storied plots in the city — the site of Bethlehem's 1741 'first house,' the Moravian log building from which the town grew, later the Eagle Hotel, and since 1922 the grand hotel that replaced it, built with funding from Bethlehem Steel president Charles Schwab. A member of Historic Hotels of America and a contributing property to the Central Bethlehem Historic District, it has hosted world figures across a century and leans warmly into its own ghost stories rather than shying from them. Its best-known reported spirit is May Yohe, an actress and singer born on the site at the earlier Eagle Hotel in 1866, who found later fame and, guests say, returns to the place she remembered most fondly; other longstanding accounts name a former host and a former landlady, and Room 932 is nicknamed the 'Room with a Boo.' These are presented as the hotel's own cheerful lore and guest reports rather than documented fact; the verified history is the remarkable continuity of hospitality on this single Moravian site since 1741.
