The Sayre Mansion anchors Bethlehem's Fountain Hill neighborhood, an 1858 Gothic Revival home built for Robert Heysham Sayre, chief engineer of the Lehigh Valley Railroad and a founder of the Bethlehem Iron Works that became Bethlehem Steel. Sayre raised his family here across some fifty years, and the home's history carries real loss — several of the Sayre children died young in the house, a fact the mansion's reported activity is often connected to. Meticulously restored, it operates today as a historic inn of nineteen guest rooms plus Carriage House suites, and it leans into its own reputation with guided ghost tours and a ticketed autumn paranormal experience that pairs an overnight stay with an oral history of the house.
