The Harry Packer Mansion stands just uphill from his father's, built in 1874 as a wedding gift from Asa Packer to his son Harry and designed by the Quaker architect Addison Hutton, with interiors by the Gilded Age firm Herter Brothers of New York. Its dramatic Gothic-Italianate facade is widely reported to have served as the architectural model Walt Disney World's Imagineers drew on for the Haunted Mansion — the detail the inn is best known for, and the reason its 'haunted' reputation is largely about its silhouette rather than any claim the house itself is haunted. Today it operates as a bed-and-breakfast inn with twelve guest rooms across the main house and the 1861 Carriage House, and is known for its immersive murder-mystery weekends. It is a contributing property to the Old Mauch Chunk Historic District. Any reported paranormal accounts are guest lore rather than documented fact; the mansion's own draw is its architecture and its Disney connection.
