The record
The Inn at Jim Thorpe anchors Broadway in the historic downtown, a four-story, 45-room hotel rebuilt after an 1849 fire destroyed much of the town and reopened as the New American Hotel — the architectural and social center of Mauch Chunk through the 19th and early 20th centuries, when guests reportedly included Ulysses S. Grant, William Howard Taft, Thomas Edison, John D. Rockefeller, and Buffalo Bill. Restored beginning in 1988 by owner John Drury, its revival helped catalyze Jim Thorpe's broader downtown renaissance, and the building remains the landmark centerpiece of Broadway, with the Broadway Grille & Pub on its ground floor. Unusually, the inn's own history page states that guests have reported unexplained activity in some rooms — furniture moved, televisions turning on and off, orbs and shadows in photographs — accounts it presents as guest reports rather than established fact, which is how they are carried here.
